Social Media Reach is proposed as one of the main and most important factor for any social media campaign. It is the first most factor which gives an idea to the digital marketer about the success of the campaigns.

Different campaign have different definition for this reach. Let us first understand clearly what does this reach means in different social platforms. Here different platform means only Facebook, Twitter & Google +

What Is Reach ?

Reach is defined as the no. of fans/audience/people able to see you. In social media point of view , it is defined as no. of people saw your social media content during a complete cycle( which is a day).

Mathematically, Reach is defined as :

Reach = (The number of unique authors referencing your brand) / (The total number of mentions).

Why It Is Important ?

It is the only way to judge your social media campaign and decide whether to move ahead or not. The more reach your brand can generate for the campaign, the more possibilities , campaign get good no. of social interactions which is otherwise called as Engagement level.

Different social media sites have different point of view for this social media reach. Facebook reach is quite different from Twitter while Twitter reach concept or definition is totally different from Google+

Let me explain you bit-by-by with simple way so that it will be easier and benefit for you to understand. Hence it will be useful for the social media campaign too.

Understanding & Improving Social Media Reach on Facebook 

When it comes to the biggest social platform i.e. Facebook , understanding reach becomes highly important  and this is how it is defined.

Facebook evaluates the brand performance in the news feed based on two metrics :

  1. Impression : No. of times , a user see the same post during a cycle or during the whole day of his/her activity.
  2. Reach : It is defined as the no. of users , who saw the impressions of the post in their News Feed. (doesn’t matter how many times they see the same post).

Facebook Reach

Single person can see many times a single post on that duration so Reach is always found be lesser than impression.

Further more Facebook categories Reach to : Organic Reach, Paid Reach & Viral Reach. This topic will be covered in my next article.

Before looking for the benefits out of Reach , one need to understand what Reach can do with your brand on Facebook.

It can do two things :  
  1. It can either gives positive values in the form of likes or
  2. It can gives negative values in the form of dislikes from the users.

Unlike Facebook , Reach play vital role in Twitter.

Reach is directly dependent on Followers. Followers sees both tweets and retweets.

Explaining Twitter Reach

Mathematically :

Reach is directly related to the number of followers your brand is having.

This followers includes follower’s followers which means , when a follower RT , there is chances that follower’s follower will also RT as the tweet will appear in his tweet feed. This way , brand visibility increases.

In Google+ , reach is totally different and it depends on the communities. As per Google+ ,

Google Plus Reach depends on Communities

Reach is defined as the  interactions carried out with no. of communities.Hence the more the interactions carried out with more communities , social exposure of your brand increases more.
